Lilac for People is the brainchild of singer and composer Francesca Gaza.
They are a modern eight-piece ensemble, rooted in jazz but fused with elements of pop and electronic music that result in a dreamy, original chamber jazz. The muses inspiring this musical concept are proudly crossover female figures, who defy being labelled under a single genre, and who take an all-embracing approach to pop music by respecting the past while taking a leap into the future: Björk, Laura Mvula, Becca Stevens, Kimbra, Maria Schneider, My Brightest Diamond.
Francesca founded the project at the start of 2017 together with seven friends and fellow students, and immediately began to gather acclaim from specialist critics (All About Jazz and Downbeat). In July of that same year, Lilac for People won the MIDJ (Musicisti Italiani di Jazz) national first prize for composition, while the following year they took first place at the JazzAlguer Mediterrani contest, directed by Paolo Fresu.
Lilac is the single taken from their debut album, released on Auand Records in 2019, produced by Andrea Lombardini and funded by JazzAlguer.
