New appointment with Conad Jazz Contest story and the musicians protagonists of past editions of the Contest.
This week we interviewed Sea Connection trio feat Nicola Caminiti, another finalist band of the 2023 edition of the Conad Jazz Contest. The sextet with Claudio Palana on piano, Federico Saccà on drums, Tommaso Pugliese on double bass and Nicola Caminiti on sax.
Let’s start with Umbria Jazz: what emotions did you feel walking on the Umbria Jazz stage in front of the public and critics? What memories do you have of those emotions today?
There was certainly a lot of emotion, we were super excited when we went on stage, and we were very satisfied with our performance. We received appreciation from both the public and the other finalists.
In addition to the moment of the performance, we have an unforgettable memory of those days at the Umbria Jazz Festival, from the sounds in the streets of Perugia to the wonderful concerts at the Santa Giuliana arena.
What happened after that performance? Did the all members continue to play in that band or did you take different paths?
The group continues to be active despite the distance of the members. There are certain periods of the year in which we condense our concert activity for logistical reasons, but we remain in constant contact planning our projects.
Have you been noticed by anyone following your participation in the Contest and performances as finalists? Have you had any engagements for other stages?
We have received several appreciations from some Jazz festival organizers, some of them wanted our contact. Certainly, having been finalists in the Conad contest always enriches our presentations on stage by the artistic directors.
How is your musical project evolving? Is the band with which you participated in the Conad Jazz Contest last year still there?
Not even a month after participating in the contest we held a concert with the great saxophonist Javier Girotto as a guest at the Polignano Jazz Festival. We then played the trio’s most iconic songs and some of the saxophonist’s original compositions.
What’s in your future as a band?
Our concert activity still focuses on the presentation of the first album in the name of the Sea Connection trio feat Nicola Caminiti, we are planning new concerts also outside Italy. The release of a new album under the name of the trio is in the planning stage
Thank you Sea Connection, we can’t wait to listen to your next album and to learn how your tour in Italy and abroad is progressing!
