Conad Jazz Contest 2019 begins: the latest news

For the eighth consecutive year, Conad will be collaborating with Umbria Jazz to discover and showcase young talents, promoting the new edition of the Conad Jazz Contest. The competition – reserved for Italian artists between 18 and 28 years old, Italians or Italian residents, soloists or groups with up to 8 members – as always offers the ten finalists the chance to perform on the Umbria Jazz stage, along with other important prizes.

Among the new features for this year, more opportunities will be offered to the winner. As well as the chance to perform during the Festival (Perugia 12-21 July 2019), the overall winner will be included in the “Il Grande Viaggio Insieme Conad” date in Matera and will be invited to play at “Il Jazz italiano per L’Aquila”, one of the biggest Jazz events in Italy, a testimony of the concrete support offered by artists to the civil, social and cultural reconstruction of the capital of Abruzzo. Furthermore, during the months following the Festival – thanks to a collaboration with the Associazione Italiana Musicisti Jazz – the winning band will be taken on tour, playing at the best Jazz Clubs in Italy, finishing the year with a performance at Umbria Jazz Winter #27.

Also for this edition, the ten finalists will be selected by the joint efforts of two panels of judges: a completely new technical panel (see the Panel page on this website) will select 9 bands among the competitors who will perform live during Umbria Jazz; and then a public panel of judges – made up of the on-line community – will choose the tenth and last finalist by casting their vote on this website.

Selection of the winner will be different this year. The winner will be selected directly during the live performances: there will be a panel of artistic judges – chaired this year by Paolo Fresu, the world-famous trumpet player – who will select the overall winner, while listening to the ten finalists play live during the Festival.

As well as the extraordinary opportunity offered in terms of visibility, the winner will also be offered a prize of 5,000 Euro. The band most voted for by the public, will be awarded a 500 Euro voucher which can be used to record their own album in a professional recording studio.

Also in 2019, a special prize will be awarded to the single most talented musician, who will be awarded a scholarship at the Berklee Summer School at Umbria Jazz Clinics 20: an exclusive learning experience during the only seminar held in Italy by the most prestigious Jazz school in the world.

Applicants can register from 2 April to 15 May 2019 On-line voting will be open from 16 May to 12 June 2019
