Nine finalists have been selected by the technical jury, while the tenth was decided by the popular jury. The young jazz talents thus selected will perform on the prestigious stage of Umbria Jazz (Perugia, July 12-21, 2024) to win the final prize of €5,000.

Bologna, June 14, 2024. Conad and the Umbria Jazz Foundation, who have been searching for jazz talents for 11 years with the Conad Jazz Contest, announce the ten finalists who will compete for the 2024 title with live performances on the stage of Umbria Jazz (Perugia, July 12-21, 2024).

The nine bands selected by the Technical Jury – EnTropé, Igor Senderov Quartet, Marco Ullstein Quintet, Ninive, Saihs, Scannapieco – Geremia 5et, The New Sextet Quartet, VMV Trio, and YEMENS – together with the tenth band finalist selected by the Popular Jury – FEMEA 5ET – will perform live on the Conad stage at the Giardini Carducci in Perugia as part of the official program of Umbria Jazz, starting from July 15, 2024.

The technical jury, chaired by Manuele Morbidini, saxophonist and composer as well as musical director of the Umbria Jazz Orchestra, selected 9 of the 10 finalists after extensive listening to over 270 contest entries, noting the participation of many talented individuals. Nearly 60,000 votes were cast by the Popular Jury, with over 8,200 votes going to FEMEA 5ET, the tenth finalist band and recipient of a voucher worth €500 to be used in a recording studio by the end of 2024.

The finalists’ performances will take place on the “Conad stage” at the central Giardini Carducci in the afternoons of July 15, 16, and 17 and will be evaluated by the artistic jury chaired by Stefano Bragatto, Director of Radio Monte Carlo, who will announce the absolute winner of the Contest live on the radio from the mobile studio in Piazza della Repubblica, along Corso Vannucci, in Perugia on July 17.

The winner of the Conad Jazz Contest 2024 will receive the final prize of €5,000 as a contribution to their career and will have the opportunity to perform in a dedicated tour organized by Umbria Jazz between summer 2024 and spring 2025 on the most prestigious jazz stages across Italy.

The Conad Jazz Contest is an initiative of Conad, a long-standing partner of the Umbria Jazz Festival, always keen to offer opportunities to the most deserving young people and promote the dissemination of culture as a common heritage, both through the sponsorship of projects promoted by third parties and through initiatives carried out independently and directly, as part of its concrete sustainability strategy “Supporting the Future” based on three dimensions: environment and resources, people and communities, businesses and territory.
