Another appointment with Conad Jazz Contest story and the musicians protagonists of past editions of the Contest.
This week it’s the turn of Iridescent, the finalist trio of the 2023 edition of the Conad Jazz Contest, with of Francesco Cannito on piano, Carmelo Taci on drums and Jan Iacopo Toninelli on bass.
Let’s start with Umbria Jazz: what emotions did you feel walking on the Umbria Jazz stage in front of the public and critics? What memories do you have of those emotions today?
Getting on the stage at the Carducci Gardens was very emotional for us. We were the first group on the first day of the Contest, our first experience on such a large and important stage… there was a lot of positive tension and desire to play well. Bringing our music there was an honor and we are all grateful for this opportunity.
How did it go after that performance? Did the band members continue to play in that lineup or did you take different paths?
The group and the project connected to it continue to exist, although there have not been many opportunities to play together. Some work commitments have taken us down different paths in recent months, without however abandoning the idea of the project. Each of us cultivates our own professionalism in the musical world, continuing to train and work.
How is your musical project progressing? Is the band with which you participated in the Conad Jazz Contest last year still there? What’s in your future as a band?
We are still waiting for an opportunity to get noticed.
We haven’t written new music but we are slowly publishing videos taken from one of our “Live Sessions” in the studio. We decided to create material that people could listen to, recording the songs that we brought to the stage of the Conad Jazz Contest.
If you are curious to listen, the latest published is at this link: https://youtu.be/il4BZH0oMIQ?si=79e6dkjeDqetVxYB
Thank you Iridescent, we hope to be able to contribute to giving you a new opportunity by inviting everyone to listen to your “live sessions”!
